In the past few years, The Wall Street Journal launched a trio of email challenges to help our readers get better at something in their lives, from exercise to money. Each challenge starts when you sign up, and continues with one email a week to your inbox—full of exercises and how-tos—for six weeks.

For 2022, we’ve updated and refreshed these short courses for those looking for a project or challenge to kick off the year. While we don’t recommend doing all three challenges at once, we do recommend taking advantage of the fresh-start energy the new year brings and making plans for joy in January.

Here’s how to sign up.

The Fitness Challenge

Ready to feel healthier and stronger? The WSJ Fitness Challenge is a six-week program of step-up exercises designed for people of all ages and fitness levels who want to take their workouts up a notch. Developed by veteran NBA sports performance coach Arnie Kander and written by fitness columnist Jen Murphy, this six-week program doesn’t require equipment and can be performed anywhere, even in small spaces.

Test your financial know-how over six weeks with a refresher on personal finance concepts and budget homework as well as thoughtful, practical tasks you can do at home to learn more about yourself and your money.

Each lesson is designed as a simple, doable money task for hard times, but anyone can benefit from the series. Beginners on your financial journeys will learn a lot, and more seasoned budgeters might just encounter one or two things you haven’t seen before.
