Denzil Ray Rutherford, 93, of Fairmont, handed away peacefully in his dwelling at Rock Lake on Thursday, June 26, 2025. He was born on March 28, 1932, the son to the late William Orval Rutherford and Opal Saunders Rutherford Collins. He’s survived by his loving spouse, Linda Mae Haught Rutherford.
Along with his spouse, Denzil is survived by his daughter, Susan Rutherford Rowand and her husband Robert of Carolina, WV., his grandson, Nathan Taylor Rowand, of Carolina, WV., his sister, Eustina Carlton of Nashville, TN., his niece, Crystal Carlton of Colfax, NC., a great-nephew, Brady Carlton of Colfax, NC., his brother-in-law, Robert Haught of Fairmont, a niece, Heather Haught and her husband David of Meadville, PA., and a nephew, John Haught of Fairmont.
Along with his dad and mom, Denzil was preceded in dying by his brother, Billy Rutherford.
Denzil was a graduate of the West Virginia Enterprise Faculty and attended Hebron Baptist Church. He was a Warehouse Supervisor for the Westinghouse Electrical Company. He retired with 25 years of service as a Rural Mail Provider for the USA Postal Service. Denzil was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished his household deeply and loved spending time with them. He was an avid outdoorsman and cherished engaged on his farm and tending to his backyard. He had a ardour for studying and finding out about well being and pure research. Denzil was a member of the Marion County Family tree Membership and spent many hours exploring his family tree roots and the histories of different folks’s ancestors.
Denzil obtained the Westinghouse Electrical Company Citizenship Award which was one of many highest awards given by the Company. He was acknowledged for his excellent contributions to the Jaycees, his curiosity in youth applications, and his unselfish service to Fairmont. Jaycees-Denzil served on many committees and tasks of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in addition to a board member and Exterior Vice President. His contributions to this group had been acknowledged with a number of awards together with a Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Jaycees and Jaycee Presidential Award of Honor. He was named “Jaycee of the Year” in 1963 and was chosen to look within the 1965 version of “Outstanding Young Men of America.” He was Scoutmaster-Knights of Pythias, and was Affiliate Advisor of Explorer Scout Troop 105, sponsored by the Westinghouse Keymen’s Membership. Denzil was instrumental in organizing the Explorer Troop.
