Romney congratulates Trump, says course forward may have challenges

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Wednesday congratulated President-elect Trump on his projected win within the 2024 presidential election.

“Ann and I extend congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump and to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance,” Romney stated in a put up on the social platform X.

“Congratulations, as well, to the new members of the U.S. Senate and House,” he added. “The people have spoken. It is now up to these leaders to thoughtfully chart the course ahead, as it is not without challenges. May God bless our great United States.”

Trump secured one other 4 years within the White Home on Wednesday, defeating Vice President Harris within the presidential election, based on projections from Choice Desk HQ.

Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, has been a robust critic of Trump lately. He has beforehand voted to convict the previous president in two impeachment trials: one within the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots and one other associated to Trump and funding for Ukraine.

Describing his reasoning behind his vote to convict following the Capitol riots, Romney stated in an announcement on the time that he thinks “an attempt to corrupt an election to keep oneself in power one of the most reprehensible acts that can be taken by a sitting president.”

“The second impeachment resulted from the president’s continued effort to do just that. The president’s conduct represented an unprecedented violation of his oath of office and of the public trust,” he added.

The Hill has reached out to the Trump marketing campaign for remark.
