Macaulay Culkin shares fond recollections of time with John Sweet

Culkin and Sweet labored collectively on the 1989 comedy Uncle Buck in addition to the 1990 blockbuster House Alone.

Now, in a brand new documentary about Sweet’s life and profession, Culkin opens up about how the older star was the primary to take discover of his father’s anger points.

“I think he always had that really great instinct,” Culkin remembers in I Like Me, which premiered on the Toronto Worldwide Movie Pageant this week.

Macaulay, who’s brother to actors Kieran and Rory Culkin, has spoken candidly in regards to the abuse he suffered by the hands of his father.

“I think he saw. Listen, even before the wave crested and the Home Alone stuff was happening, it was not hard to see how difficult my father was. It was no secret. He was already a monster,” he says within the documentary (per Folks journal), including:

“Swiftly, the celebrity and the cash got here, and he grew to become an notorious monster. He was already not a superb man.

“I think John was looking a little side-eyed, like, ‘Is everything alright over there? You doing good? Good day? Everything’s alright? Everything good at home? Alright.’”

Culkin remembers that expression of concern as “a testament to the kind of man he was,” stating that Sweet “was just looking out for.”

He added that Sweet went on to play a “paternal” position in his life.

Culkin notes that Sweet was certainly one of only a few adults who helped to guard him from his abusive house life and the perils of fame.

“It doesn’t happen that often. It actually happened less as time went on,” Culkin says.

“I wish I got more of that in my life. It’s important that I remember that. I remember John caring when not a lot of people did.”

Sweet amassed greater than 40 movie credit over the course of his profession, however because the documentary about his life makes clear, his best legacy is the recollections of kindness and compassion he left behind.
