Lithium-ion battery sparks hearth in Ocala residence

OCALA, Fla. – A lithium-ion battery hooked up to a scooter caught hearth Wednesday morning in an empty Ocala residence, in accordance with hearth rescue.

Firefighters responded at 4:24 a.m. to the Laurel Park Flats after a resident reported smelling smoke from a neighboring unit.

In response to Ocala Hearth Rescue, crews noticed smoke coming from a window of a second-story unit. Firefighters searched the residence and confirmed nobody was inside.

As firefighters labored to place out the fireplace, police evacuated adjoining models. Firefighters cleared one unit that shared a wall with the residence that was on hearth and located three youngsters asleep inside.

Hearth rescue mentioned the fireplace was put out shortly “with a water can.”

It was decided that the fireplace began from a lithium-ion battery hooked up to a scooter.

“An inspection by the fire marshal revealed that the battery ignited, leading to the fire spreading to nearby items, including other scooters and a sofa. The quick actions of attentive neighbors greatly contributed to the successful outcome of the incident,” hearth rescue mentioned.

No accidents had been reported.
