Lawmaker gives recommendations on perks for incoming members of Congress

Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) supplied to incoming members of Congress a one-sheet of suggestions and perks as they put together to affix the legislative department.

“Congratulations!” Lee wrote within the information to freshmen. “You made it! You are here! Serving in Congress has truly been the honor of my lifetime, and I am sure it will be for you as well. You will never cease to be humbled by the sight of the Capitol Dome.”

“Between finding an apartment, setting up an office, orientation, getting to know people, elections, and hiring a staff, these first few weeks can be incredibly overwhelming,” she added. “In the 6 years that I have had the honor to serve, I have found a few things that provide some relief in an incredibly demanding job.”

Lee then listed perks and useful hints, together with the flexibility for lawmakers to “schedule trips to the National Archives ‘treasure vault’ of historic records dating back to 1789,” advising them on timing on meals supply on Capitol Hill and telling them to go “on a walk every now and then.”

“Take time to appreciate the history of these hallowed grounds and the significance of the work we are called upon to do,” Lee mentioned in a closing level.

Lee was reelected to her fourth time period this month.

The brand new Congress is will convene Jan. 3, and lawmakers will probably be sworn into the 119th Congress.
