Interview with Canadian Futures Trader: Inside the Journey of a Modern Futures Trader
SHARE

Paul, Futures Times: Thanks for joining us today, Chris. To start off, can you tell us about your background and how you became known as the Canadian Futures Trader?

Chris, the Canadian Futures Trader “CFT”: Absolutely. I didn’t come from Wall Street or a big finance background. I started out like many people — curious about the markets, trying different strategies, and gradually gravitating toward futures trading. What hooked me was the speed, liquidity, and global nature of futures. Over time, I built both my trading career and my brand, Canadian Futures Trader, to share that journey with others.

How Canadian Futures Trader Approaches the Markets

Paul: What markets do you focus on, and how would you describe your trading style?

CFT: My focus is on futures contracts, particularly bond and agriculture products. They fit my trading style because of their volume and structure. I’d describe myself as disciplined and systematic — I don’t chase every move, I wait for my setups and follow strict risk rules.  As well I am an order flow trader.  Where most people focus on charts, I like to see the actual price ladder. Canadian Futures Trader is all about showing that futures trading isn’t gambling; it’s a business built on discipline.

A Day in the Life of a Futures Trader

Paul: Walk us through a typical trading day.

CFT: I start early and end early.  I trade during the most liquid hours, from 8am until 11am. If my criteria aren’t met, I don’t force trades. That’s something I emphasize with Canadian Futures Trader content — success comes from patience and consistency, not from staring at charts 12 hours a day.  Some days I take no trades, at most maybe 5 trades.  Patience is key, waiting for the right set up.

Lessons Learned from Futures Trading

Paul: Were there any defining moments that shaped your journey?

CFT: Time in the market was really the main teacher.  My first year trading was a losing year like pretty much everyone.  But I learned from my mistakes instead of feeling down on myself.  It taught me to treat trading as a professional business, not a hobby. That’s when I refined my rules and built the mindset that now drives both my trading and the Canadian Futures Trader platform.

Building the Canadian Futures Trader Brand

Paul: What inspired you to launch Canadian Futures Trader as a brand?

CFT: When I was starting out, I found it hard to get clear, honest information about futures trading. There was a lot of hype but not much transparency. I wanted to create something different — a resource that cuts through the noise and shares real experiences. Over time, Canadian Futures Trader has grown into a platform with education, affiliate partnerships, and a community of traders.

Even these days now there so many “influencers” who only show the flashy, lifestyle side of trading, even though most of them are faking it.  I encourage people to take the time to learn the proper futures trading techniques if you want to make a career of it.

Common Misconceptions About Futures Trading

Paul: What do you think people often misunderstand about futures?

CFT: The biggest misconception is that it’s just high-risk gambling. In reality, if you approach it with a system, risk management, and discipline, it can be a consistent business. Another myth is that you need to trade all day, every day. I tell people through Canadian Futures Trader: you just need to be present at the right times, not glued to the screen.  A good work to life balance is far more important, and you can make the most of 3 hours of trading and then live a life off the computer.

Advice from Canadian Futures Trader for Beginners

Paul: What advice would you give someone just starting in futures trading?

CFT: Start small, focus on protecting your capital, and learn the structure of the contracts you’re trading. Don’t expect overnight success. Every futures product has its own rhythm — understanding that is key. At Canadian Futures Trader, I encourage people to focus on learning the craft first, profits second.  There are lower cost avenues to get into futures trading through prop firms, companies that will fund traders as they learn and grow a balance.  I have all this information on my website https://www.cft.ca

The Future of Canadian Futures Trader

Paul: What’s next for you and the Canadian Futures Trader platform?

CFT: I’ll keep growing the content and resources, building community, and helping traders cut through the hype. Markets change, and I evolve with them. The goal for Canadian Futures Trader is to keep being a trusted place for anyone serious about futures trading.  There’s a reason I’m a successful trader out traveling around the world.

Why Follow Canadian Futures Trader

Paul: Final question — why should people follow your journey?

CFT: Because I’m not here to sell dreams. Canadian Futures Trader is about showing the reality of trading: the ups, the downs, and the discipline required. If someone wants straightforward insights from someone actively trading and sharing the process, then following Canadian Futures Trader is the best place to start.
