Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday condemned the choice to award ‘The Kerala Story‘ on the 71st Nationwide Movie Awards, calling it an insult to the “noble tradition of Indian cinema”.
The movie, directed by Sudipto Sen, received Greatest Director and Greatest Cinematography (for Prasantanu Mohapatra), prompting backlash from the Kerala authorities. The controversial 2023 launch had confronted widespread criticism for allegedly misrepresenting info and portraying Kerala in a communal gentle.
In an announcement, Chief Minister Vijayan stated the movie was “made with lies to defame Kerala and spread communalism”. He added that by honouring such a movie, the awards jury had “insulted the noble tradition of Indian cinema that stood for religious brotherhood and national integration.”
