An Indian Bison (Indian Gaur) reportedly attacked a Konda Reddi tribal lady whereas the latter was engaged in farm work within the protected forest close to Maredumilli in Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Indian Gaur (Bos gaurus) is classed as ‘vulnerable species’ and is endemic to Papikonda Nationwide Park.
The sufferer has been recognized as Matla Chandrakantamma belonging to the Konda Reddi tribe, a Significantly Weak Tribal Group (PVTG) in Andhra Pradesh. She is native of Gujja Maamidvalasa village close to Maredumilli. The sufferer was cultivating a chunk of land. The tribals within the Company space right here take up farming beneath Podu cultivation, a technique by which a patch of forest is cleared to develop crops.

“An Indian Gaur is reported to have attacked the victim three days ago. It occurred inside the Protected Forest area. We are investigating the attack”, Rampachodavaram Sub-Divisional Forest Officer T. Anusha advised The Hindu. The sufferer who suffered minor accidents is being handled in Authorities Space Hospital, Rampachodavaram and is alleged to be ‘out of danger’.
