“For over 70 years, Scouts around the country have been helping to honor our country’s fallen” based on the Scouting America Pacific Skyline Council web site. “Golden Gate National Cemetery was first opened in 1941. Each year, Scouts, Scouters, veterans and other community groups from all over the Bay Area gather in tribute to these gallant men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.”

Memorial Day is a time of reflection and remembrance of those that died whereas serving within the U.S. army, based on the Congressional Analysis Service. The vacation is noticed partly by the Nationwide Second of Remembrance, which inspires all Individuals to pause at 3 p.m. for a second of silence.

The vacation stems from the American Civil Conflict, which killed greater than 600,000 service members — each Union and Accomplice — between 1861 and 1865.

There’s little controversy over the primary nationwide observance of what was then known as Ornament Day. It occurred Might 30, 1868, after a company of Union veterans known as for adorning battle graves with flowers, which had been in bloom.
