Dubbed NWA 16788, the rock was found on Nov. 16, 2023 by a meteorite hunter in Niger’s distant Agadez Area.

NWA 16788 is about 70% bigger than the following largest piece of Mars that has ever been discovered on Earth.

Based on the public sale put up, items of Mars are “unbelievably rare.” There are at the moment over 77,000 acknowledged meteorites on Earth, and of these, solely 400 are from Mars and have a mixed weight of 825 kilos.

Sotheby’s stated NWA 16788 weighs 24.67 kilograms, or about 54 kilos, which equates to six.5% of all Martian materials at the moment recognized on Earth.
