Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), a rising conservative star, introduced this week that he’ll assist Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) within the Senate Republican management race, giving Cornyn his first public endorsement within the Senate GOP convention.

“I’m backing John Cornyn for majority leader. In the last two years, nobody has done more to win back the majority than he has,” Hawley stated in an announcement.

“He tirelessly raised millions of dollars for competitive Senate races including mine,” he added.

Cornyn introduced Friday that he raised almost $33 million throughout the 2024 election cycle to assist Republican senators and candidates, bringing his profession fundraising complete for Senate Republicans to just about $415 million.

Hawley famous that Cornyn has expressed assist for considered one of his high legislative priorities: extension and enlargement of the Radiation Publicity Compensation Act (RECA).

“He has voiced his support for the RECA compromise that would fairly compensate hundreds of thousands of Americans poisoned by their government, including so many in Missouri,” Hawley stated.

The Missouri senator additionally argued that Cornyn would “work closely and effectively with President Trump to deliver on the promise of our new majority.”

“I’m delighted to give him my support,” he stated.

Only some different Republican senators have declared their public endorsement within the race amongst Cornyn, Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.), and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) to develop into the subsequent Senate majority chief.

Sens. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) and Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) are backing Thune, whereas Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is backing Scott.
