Burley D. “Butch” Tennant, Jr., 81, of Fairmont, handed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 at his residence together with his spouse by his facet.  He was born July 15, 1943 in Fairmont, a son of the late Burley D. and Beatrice L. Shipp Tennant.   He’s survived by his loving spouse, of 34 years, Jacqueline Klingensmith Tennant. 

 

Butch was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairmont.  He was a 1961 graduate of East Fairmont Excessive College and a veteran with the US Military.  Butch started his working profession with Helmick’s Foundry in Fairmont, after which transitioned to Westinghouse Company in Fairmont the place he labored for over 42 years.  He served because the Vice President of Worldwide Union Electrical Staff.  He additionally was an area restaurant proprietor of a number of areas and supplied native catering for over 19 years.  He later labored with Pierpont School because the Technical Program Coordinator.

 

Butch was devoted to neighborhood enchancment. He participated throughout the Fairmont/Marion County neighborhood on many ranges.  He was concerned in youth soccer for over 35 years was the Head Coach of the I.U.E. Rockets, and obtained the 1995 Nationwide Pop-Warner Volunteer of the Yr.  Butch had served as Fairmont Metropolis Councilman, Marion County Commissioner, and was at the moment serving as a member of the CKB Marion/Harrison County Airport Board, and as a Commissioner with the Marion County Parks and Recreation.  He was awarded the 2013 Democrat of the Yr for the State of West Virginia.  Pricey to his coronary heart, was the Marion County Toy Drive for which he served as Director, and Palatine Park in Fairmont for which he was very implemental with the renovations and growth.   He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus in addition to the Elks Membership of Fairmont.

 

Along with his spouse Jacqui, Butch is survived by his son J.B. and his spouse Shirley Tennant of Fairmont, his step-daughter Niki and her husband Michael Drees of Fairmont, his grandchildren Seth Yates, Christopher Yates, Jeremiah Yates, and Ashley Drees, in addition to 4 nice -grandchildren.  He’s additionally survived by his sister Diane and her husband Rocky Glover of Abingdon, VA, his niece Dee Dee and her husband Jeoff Bodenhorst of Abingdon, VA, in addition to 2 great-nephews, and his “good buddy” Joey Curtis.

 

Memorial donations could also be made to the Marion County Toy Drive, 924 Sylvan Avenue, Fairmont, WV  26554.

 

The household has entrusted the preparations to Ford Funeral Dwelling, 201 Columbia Avenue, Fairmont.  The household will obtained household and associates on the funeral dwelling on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 2PM till 8PM with the Vigil Service to be held at 5 PM within the funeral dwelling.  The Catholic Funeral Liturgy can be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 on the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 329 Maryland Avenue, Fairmont at 10AM with Father Kishore Varaparla H.G.N. as Celebrant.  Interment will observe on the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont, WV.
