Democratic Denver Mayor Mike Johnston pledged to withstand President-elect Trump’s proposed immigration insurance policies, invoking China’s notorious Tiananmen Sq. incident by saying residents would stand up in opposition to federal brokers.

Johnston emphasised Denver’s dedication to defending unlawful migrants and sustaining its sanctuary metropolis standing, saying it could not be “bullied” by the incoming Trump administration.

“We’re not going to sell out those values to anyone,” Johnston informed the Denverite in an interview. “We’re not going to be bullied into changing them.”

Johnston predicted a “Tiananmen Square moment” if federal immigration officers tried to do their job.

“More than us having DPD stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston informed the native outlet. “It’s just like the Tiananmen Sq. second with the rose and the gun, proper? You’d have each a kind of Highland mothers who got here out for the migrants.

“And you do not want to mess with them.”

The Democratic mayor’s remarks got here after Trump campaigned, partly, on implementing stringent immigration legal guidelines and deporting migrants and mirror a pattern by state and native officers saying they’ll reject the president-elect’s insurance policies.

In Illinois, Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker promised to uphold sanctuary standing, boldly declaring, “If you come for my people, you come through me.”

In Los Angeles, Democratic Mayor Karen Bass was instrumental in passing a neighborhood ordinance limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities. 

“Especially in the face of growing threats to the immigrant communities here in Los Angeles, I stand with the people of this city,” Bass stated. “This moment demands urgency. Immigrant protections make our communities stronger and our city better.”

Trump has vowed to provoke deportation efforts on his first day again in workplace, lately saying he can be open to declaring a nationwide emergency and utilizing the navy to make it occur.

Trump’s dedication to closing the border was cemented by his choose of “border czar,” Tom Homan.
