Shalini: The decision was driven by a desire to pursue my passion for technology and innovation. Moving to the US and earning my MS in Engineering Management from Southern Methodist University was a leap of faith that paid off, allowing me to integrate my technical skills with strategic management.

Shalini: My experience in logistics instilled in me a strong foundation in operations and efficiency. At Walmart, this background helps me develop solutions that streamline processes and enhance productivity. For example, the e-Docs technology solution eliminates driver trip paperwork, significantly improving driver efficiency and supporting sustainability. My journey taught me that every challenge is an opportunity to innovate, by creating socially responsible products.

Shalini: Mentorship is incredibly fulfilling. Helping others achieve their goals and grow in their careers gives me immense satisfaction. I’ve been fortunate to mentor many aspiring product managers, and their successes inspire me. It’s about giving back and fostering a community where everyone can thrive. One of my proudest achievements is my mentorship work, which, to me, is even more rewarding than any personal accolade.
Interviewer: You mentioned your work at Tango Analytics. How did that experience shape your career?
Shalini: My three years at Tango Analytics were pivotal. It was my first role in the US after graduating with my master’s degree. I had the opportunity to work with Fortune 500 clients, which was both challenging and rewarding. This experience honed my skills in product management, particularly in launching and managing SaaS solutions, and laid a solid foundation for my current role at Walmart.

Shalini continues to push the boundaries of innovation at Walmart, launching impactful projects like the NTransit mobile app, eDocs, elimination of Plastic Seals etc, and contributing to the company’s Innovation and Automation Team. Shalini: I’m excited about the future. I’m working on a book titled “Digital Product Management,” which will serve as a comprehensive guide for both students and professionals looking to transition into product management. It’s slated for release this winter and aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. Additionally, I remain committed to mentoring and empowering others, particularly women and students, to pursue careers in STEM.

Shalini: “I Am the Next PM” was co-authored with two other experts and is available on Amazon Kindle. The book aims to help aspiring product managers understand if this career path is right for them and serves as an interview guide.
