Former President Joe Biden mentioned he takes “responsibility” for Donald Trump’s return to the White Home and accused his successor of failing to guard the pursuits of the nation.

Sitting for his first dwell tv interview since leaving workplace, Biden was requested on “The View” if he felt liable for Trump’s victory.

“Yes, I do, because, look, I was in charge and he won, so I take responsibility,” Biden mentioned, responding to a query that probed his approval rankings falling and voter issues over border safety and inflation.

In an announcement, the White Home responded to a request for touch upon Biden’s interview: “Joe Biden is a complete disgrace to this country and the office he occupied. He has clearly lost all mental faculties and his handlers thought it’d be a good idea for him to do an interview and incoherently mumble his way through every answer. Sadly, this feels like abuse,” mentioned White Home communications director Steven Cheung.

Biden has come beneath fierce criticism from Democrats for staying within the presidential race till final July, even within the face of polling that indicated a broad cross part of the nation believed he was too previous to carry the workplace and wasn’t polling nicely in opposition to Trump. The previous president was additionally requested about Harris’ personal feedback on “The View” during which she defended Biden’s document, saying there was “not a thing that comes to mind” about what she would have accomplished in another way.

“First of all, I did not advise her to say that,” Biden mentioned of Harris’ remarks. “She has to be her own person. And she was.”

“She was part of every success we had,” he added.

Biden, who mentioned he stays in touch with Harris, mentioned she has sought his recommendation on her subsequent political transfer as she mulls a run for governor of California or one other run on the White Home.

“She’s got a difficult decision to make about what she’s going to do,” he mentioned. “I think she’s first rate, but we have a lot of really good candidates as well. So I’m optimistic, I’m not pessimistic.”
