Two Amazon Air Prime supply drones collided right into a crane in a business space Wednesday in Tolleson, Arizona. (KSAZ)

Federal investigators are analyzing a crash during which two Amazon Prime Air supply drones struck a building crane in Tolleson, Arizona, a metropolis west of Phoenix, on Wednesday.

Tolleson police mentioned the morning crash occurred in a business space close to 96th Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue, in line with FOX 10 Phoenix.

The Nationwide Transportation Security Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have each opened investigations into the collision.

“The NTSB is investigating the collision Wednesday of two Amazon Prime Air delivery UAS (drones) into a crane in Tolleson, Arizona,” the company mentioned in a publish on X Thursday.

The FAA informed FOX Enterprise Friday that the drones concerned had been two MK30 drones that “collided with the boom of a crane.” No accidents had been reported.

Amazon paused drone deliveries in Arizona on Thursday however mentioned operations would resume Friday, FOX 10 reported. Amazon spokesperson Terrence Clark informed the station that the corporate is cooperating with authorities and had already accomplished an inside evaluation.

“We’re aware of an incident involving two Prime Air drones in Tolleson, Arizona. We’re currently working with the relevant authorities to investigate,” Clark mentioned on Wednesday.

“Safety is our top priority, and we’ve completed our own internal review of this incident and are confident that there wasn’t an issue with the drones or the technology that supports them,” Clark added on Thursday. “Nonetheless, we’ve introduced additional processes like enhanced visual landscape inspections to better monitor for moving obstructions such as cranes.”

The official explanation for the crash stays unknown. The incident comes because the U.S. Transportation Division (DOT) considers new guidelines that may permit drones to fly past the visible line of sight of operators, a step officers say is vital to increasing business makes use of comparable to package deal deliveries.

The NTSB, DOT, Amazon and Tolleson police didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark from FOX Enterprise.
