Karla Maki and Matteo Ruggiero became truck drivers after they lost their jobs during the pandemic. Now the Pensacola, Fla., couple needs a plan to help rebuild their savings and credit scores.

The restaurant where they worked—he as a chef, she as a bartender—closed in March 2020. “After a few months, we started going completely stir crazy,” says the 49-year-old Ms. Maki. She and Mr. Ruggiero, 43, who aren’t married, were living on their savings and the money was dwindling fast.
