Bells for peace

The bells are set to ring once more in Cupertino’s Memorial Park Aug. 6 to honor these misplaced within the bombing of the Toyokawa Naval Arsenal throughout World Struggle II.

The annual bell ringing ceremony is being organized by Cupertino-Toyokawa Sister Cities Inc. to commemorate 80 years of peace because the bombing of Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Toyokawa.

The Toyokawa Naval Arsenal was a key army web site for the Japanese Imperial Military to retailer arms and munitions. On Aug. 7, 1945, the US Air Power focused Toyokawa, dropping 813 tons of explosives, which devastated the town and killed about 2,500 residents. Many victims have been schoolchildren and younger girls working within the arsenal.

Peaceable pickleball

In an effort to stability group recreation with neighborhood tranquility, the Metropolis of Cupertino is introducing a brand new request for pickleball gamers. Starting Aug. 1, signage can be posted at courts asking gamers to make use of quiet-category paddles and balls—licensed by USA Pickleball—from daybreak to 9 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. day by day.

“This initiative is aimed at reducing noise during early morning and evening hours,” reads a launch from the town. “While this is a step toward mitigating noise concerns, the city remains committed to supporting pickleball (and) continues to look into potential long-term noise reduction solutions.”
