Sen. Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, will need to have had flight miles expiring quickly, in any other case it’s arduous to elucidate the acute inopportune timing of his luxe household trip.

Cruz was noticed on a soothing tour of the Greek Parthenon Saturday as his constituents continued to undergo from lethal flooding, which has claimed no less than 95 lives as of Monday—together with 27 younger women from a close-by summer time camp.

In the meantime, whereas on trip in Athens, Cruz was allegedly approached by a lady who mentioned, “20 kids dead in Texas and you take a vacation?”

“He sort of grunted and walked on. His wife shot me a dirty look. Then they continued on with their tour guide,” she advised The Day by day Beast.

Volunteers seek for lacking folks alongside the banks of the Guadalupe River after current flooding on July 6.

Cruz and his household aren’t any strangers to dipping out when climate takes a flip for the more serious. When Texas was hit with an enormous winter storm in 2021 that left many with out energy and water, Cruz fled to Cancún, Mexico.

As for his timeline in Europe, Cruz reportedly jetted throughout the pond the day after a state of emergency was declared in Texas on July 3, and he returned on July 6.

“In the face of disaster, Texans come together. This is every parent’s nightmare, but we will come through this,” he wrote on X alongside a clip of him on Fox.

And whereas Cruz could also be again to work, one other larger problem is brewing in Texas: the almost 600 layoffs to the Nationwide Climate Service that seemingly contributed to the flood’s demise toll.

In Might, former NWS administrators penned a letter warning that these cuts would result in deaths within the case of utmost climate. Now, Democrats are calling for an investigation into whether or not these job cuts are immediately linked to the rising variety of deaths in Texas.

No matter who’s responsible, Cruz has an ongoing behavior of jetting off when the going will get robust—a behavior that sadly comes with receipts.
