Antioch to welcome first downtown farmers market later this month

ANTIOCH — A brand new farmers market will debut on June 22 in downtown Antioch to offer residents with higher entry to contemporary and more healthy meals.

Dubbed the Antioch Farmers’ Market, it is going to happen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m each Sunday by means of October within the Rivertown district on the parking zone close to I Avenue and third Avenue. There shall be a ribbon-cutting occasion on opening day at 10 a.m.

Pleasure Motts, board president of Have a good time Antioch Basis, highlighted the market’s significance to the neighborhood.

“I think over the last few years, we’ve kind of become a little bit of a food desert, with a lot of major grocery stores leaving. I just think having the opportunity for healthy produce, meats, fish, and flowers is something we’ve dreamed about, I think, for a long, long time,” mentioned Motts throughout an Antioch Metropolis Council assembly on Tuesday. “You know, many of us travel over to Brentwood or Walnut Creek for a farmers’ market to get fresh produce. So, now’s our chance here.”

In keeping with the California Farmers’ Markets Affiliation, there shall be over 25 native farmers and distributors.

The market is a collaborative effort between town, Have a good time Antioch Basis, and the California Farmers’ Markets Affiliation.
