A riderless horse carried an empty boot as lots of of regulation enforcement officers and residents turned out for the Santa Clara County Workplace of the Sheriff’s Peace Officers Memorial on Thursday.

The annual occasion is held to honor those that made the final word sacrifice within the line of responsibility and officers acknowledged return to the 1800’s. The primary officer killed was Santa Clara  Deputy Sheriff Martin J. Roohan in 1862. Roohan was stabbed to dying by an prisoner who was awaiting execution.

The final officer who died within the line of responsibility was San Jose police officer Michael Katherman, who was killed in a bike accident in 2016.

Sheriff Robert Jonsen gave the greeting to the group and the Sheriff’s Honor Guard Unit posted the colours whereas the Pipes and Drum Corps performed. The nationwide anthem was sung by the Pursue Kids’s Choir and the Honor Guard additionally gave a 21-gun salute.

Pastor Michael Burchfield gave the invocation and the benediction to conclude the solemn ceremony which many relations of fallen officers attended.
