President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday granted sanction to prosecute RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in reference to a cash laundering case linked to the alleged land-for-jobs rip-off in Indian Railways.

The alleged rip-off befell throughout Yadav’s tenure as Union Railway Minister and concerned accepting land from unemployed youths in change for presidency jobs.

Earlier, in January 2024, the ED had filed its first chargesheet within the case in opposition to Amit Katyal, an alleged affiliate of the Prasad household, together with Lalu’s spouse and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, MP daughter Misa Bharti, daughter Hema Yadav, and two corporations—A Ok Infosystems Non-public Restricted and A B Exports Pvt. Ltd.

What Is Land-for-Jobs Rip-off?

The case stems from a CBI FIR which alleges that Lalu Prasad Yadav, as Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009 in the course of the UPA authorities, was concerned in corruption whereas appointing Group D substitute workers in Indian Railways.
