Fireplace at Valero Refinery in Benicia brings shelter-in-place

BENICIA — Security officers issued a shelter-in-place for residents, and Contra Costa County well being officers referred to as on a hazardous supplies workforce to analyze the impression of a fireplace that broke out Monday on the Valero Benicia Refinery.

The refinery is positioned within the 3400 block of E. 2nd Road.

It was unknown instantly if the hearth precipitated any accidents.

Well being officers with Contra Costa County stated they had been conscious of the incident and had been sending a HazMat workforce to Martinez to watch for any potential impacts. That metropolis already endured a hearth on the Martinez Reining Firm in February that launched 7,000 gallons of hydrocarbon supplies into the air and required medical therapy for six employees.

The way forward for the 900-acre property that homes the refinery is murky after Valero Power Corp. introduced its subsidiary, Valero Refining Firm-California, has notified the state Power Fee of its “intent to idle, restructure, or cease refining operations” on the refinery.

This can be a creating story. Please verify again for updates.
