REDWOOD CITY – Bay Space prosecutors on Tuesday introduced an almost $1.3 million settlement with cable and web supplier WaveDivision Holdings LLC over environmental violations.

The corporate, which operates as Astound Broadband in California, was investigated by the California Division of Poisonous Substances Management and district lawyer’s places of work in Contra Costa, San Mateo, San Francisco, Placer, San Luis Obispo and Yolo counties.

Prosecutors mentioned inspections at WaveDivision Holdings amenities revealed the agency was improperly sending hazardous waste – together with electronics, silicone gels and batteries – to municipal landfills as an alternative of approved hazardous waste disposal websites. The disposals violated numerous state environmental and unfair competitors legal guidelines.

WaveDivsion Holdings additionally didn’t adjust to laws associated to hazardous supplies, together with submission of hazardous supplies enterprise plans and making certain correct worker coaching for dealing with of hazardous supplies, in line with prosecutors.

“The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office takes environmental violations seriously and strives to hold responsible parties accountable for such violations,” San Mateo County District Legal professional Stephen Wagstaffe mentioned in a press release. “We are grateful for the collaborative efforts of the other district attorneys’ offices, as well as the investigators and environmental health partners, who contributed to this result.”

Contra Costa County District Legal professional Diane Becton famous that the telecom supplier “cooperated with the investigation and has since implemented training programs to properly manage and dispose of hazardous waste, ensuring future compliance.”

Underneath the settlement settlement, WaveDivision Holdings pays $875,000 in civil penalties, $300,000 for enforcement prices and $100,000 for supplemental environmental initiatives.
