Eateries are contending with excessive prices of eggs amid an ongoing scarcity and a reported Division of Justice (DOJ) investigation into sky-high costs. 

Some eating places have been introducing surcharges on eggs in current weeks to assist them deal with elevated prices they’ve been encountering for the product. 

Mary Josephine Generoso, the supervisor of Pasticceria Rocco in New York Metropolis, instructed FOX Enterprise correspondent Madison Alworth on Monday through the “The Big Money Show” that the eatery “initially thought when we looked at one of our invoices that the pricing was incorrect or we were getting scammed” as a result of egg costs have been so excessive.

“We actually called another vendor who confirmed the egg prices,” Generoso mentioned. “Last week alone, they were upwards of $230, so it’s just crazy. It’s an exuberant amount of money.”

EGG PRICES PREDICTED TO JUMP OVER 40% IN 2025: USDA

“As of last week, they were $230 for 30 dozen,” Generoso mentioned of the price of eggs for the restaurant she manages within the interview. “Back in December, it was about $122 for a case of 30 dozen, and just a few years back, we were looking at anywhere between $38 to $60.” 

Due to egg costs, Rocco has put in place a small surcharge on egg sandwiches and omelets, Alworth reported.

Main chains Waffle Home and Denny’s applied egg surcharges final month. The non permanent surcharge at Waffle Home eating places was 50 cents per egg, whereas Denny’s instructed FOX Enterprise on the time that “pricing decisions are being made market-by-market, and restaurant-by-restaurant due to the regional impacts of the egg shortage.”
