President Donald Trump granted Stellantis, Ford and Normal Motors a one-month tariff exemption, the White Home mentioned Wednesday.

U.S. automakers who adjust to the United States-Mexico-Canada Settlement (USMCA) are getting a one-month exemption from the Trump administration’s tariffs that went into impact Monday, White Home press secretary Karoline Leavitt introduced Wednesday.

“We spoke with the Big Three automakers,” Leavitt confirmed. “We are going to give a one-month exemption on any autos coming through USMCA.”

“Reciprocal tariffs will still go into effect on April 2, but at the request of the companies associated with USMCA, the president is giving them an exemption for one month so they are not at an economic disadvantage,” Leavitt mentioned.

She instructed reporters that Stellantis, Ford and Normal Motors had been the businesses Trump spoke with.

“They requested the call. They made the ask and the president is happy to do it,” Leavitt added. “It’s a one-month exemption.”

The Trump administration goals to finish its commerce evaluation by April 1 and plans to focus on what it calls essentially the most “egregious” points first, together with nations with giant commerce surpluses with the U.S. and the very best tariff charges on American items.

The president’s tariffs would match different nations’ greater tariff charges and purpose to counter different commerce boundaries like burdensome laws, value-added taxes, authorities subsidies and trade fee insurance policies and to barter with some nations to cut back these boundaries.
