The Pacific Western Athletic Affiliation (PACWEST) stays tight-lipped about its three-month lengthy investigation into allegations of harassment and discrimination made by a transgender athlete from Vancouver Island College.

Now that the investigation has concluded, Abbotsford’s Columbia Bible Faculty (CBC) is now not the host of the 2025 basketball provincials.

In an announcement, Vancouver Island College thanked PACWEST  “for its diligence and commitment to upholding its standards, and we extend our gratitude to all those who supported this process.”

The investigation was triggered by an incident that happened final 12 months.

Hariette Mackenzie was enjoying in a two-day weekend basketball event in late October.

Vancouver Island College (VIU) was enjoying Columbia Bible Faculty on Oct. 26 when, within the third quarter, Mackenzie was grabbed by an opposing participant and thrown to the bottom.

Mackenzie additionally alleges that Columbia’s head coach cornered certainly one of VIU’s athletic workers after the Oct. 25 sport and mentioned Mackenzie shouldn’t be allowed to play.

Mackenzie is a transgender athlete who performs for the Vancouver Island College Mariners.

She took to social media after the incident, telling her story of what occurred.

“They don’t care that I began my transition in kindergarten, never having undergone a male puberty,” Mackenzie mentioned in her video.

“They don’t care that my testosterone levels are one-tenth that of a cis-woman due to the absence of reproductive organs placing me at a significant competitive disadvantage, they don’t care. Instead, they’re fuelled by their shared bigotry and ignorance.”

In the course of the investigation, VIU refused to play a pair of standard season video games in opposition to CBC in January.

VIU formally requested an exemption from these video games with out penalty, given the continuing investigation on the time and the delicate nature of the scenario.

In an announcement launched Monday, VIU mentioned the college is happy with the outcomes of the PACWEST inquiry.

“The decision reinforces the importance of upholding principles of respect, equity, and inclusion with collegiate athletics,” the assertion learn.

“We are pleased with the results of the investigation, which reflect the values we uphold at Vancouver Island University.”

Columbia Bible Faculty, in the meantime, says it’s “deeply disappointed” with the affiliation’s determination.

“We do not believe that a proper process was followed or that the results were fair. As a result, we are taking steps to have PACWEST’s decision reviewed,” the school mentioned in an announcement.

“We will not be commenting further at this time.”

PACWEST launched a short assertion on Feb. 4 stating that the investigation had formally concluded and a call had been communicated to each faculties.

It’s unclear the place provincials can be held this 12 months.
