NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Social gathering member Raghav Chadha on Tuesday demanded that airways ought to compensate passengers for each hour of flight delay, saying that delays of three to 4 hours have change into widespread. Talking within the Rajya Sabha throughout a dialogue on the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Invoice 2024, which seeks to take away redundancies and change the Plane Act, 1934, Chadha argued that airways cost passengers hundreds of rupees for permitting any extra baggage on flights. The Plane Act has been amended 21 instances until now. “If there is an excess baggage of even one kilogram, airlines charge passengers thousands of rupees but do they compensate us for a flight delay of several hours,” he requested, urging the aviation minister to create a mechanism whereby airways compensate passengers for each hour of delay brought on by them. “Along with this (the proposed compensation) a monthly chart should be issued on the airlines that delayed passengers for how many hours and on which routes,” he mentioned. He additionally raised the problem of lack of reasonably priced meals and beverage choices and claimed {that a} duopoly exists within the aviation sector with two airways controlling 90 per cent of the market share. Chadha additional raised the problem of the excessive costs of air tickets, saying that air journey shouldn’t change into luxurious journey for the countrymen. He additionally spoke concerning the concern of “overcrowding” at Indian airports, which led to lengthy queues for passengers.
