WASHINGTON—After weeks of uncertainty, the Senate is set to vote this week to advance a far-reaching $280 billion package of subsidies and research funding to shore up U.S. competitiveness in advanced technology.
The bill had all but collapsed earlier this month amid partisan bickering, then came together in a matter of days. It had been expected to move ahead in the Senate in a procedural vote Monday, setting up a final vote in that chamber later in the week. But Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) delayed the vote until Tuesday, citing East Coast storms that disrupted senators’ travel plans. He said he hoped to finish work on the bill soon.
