A political row erupted in Kerala after Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) state basic secretary PMA Salam made a controversial comment about Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, suggesting that he “doesn’t belong to either gender.”

Talking at a girls’s public assembly of the get together in Vazhakkad, Malappuram, Salam in contrast the Kerala Chief Minister along with his Tamil Nadu and West Bengal counterparts. He stated that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had proven braveness by refusing to signal the central authorities’s PM SHRI scheme, whereas Kerala’s Chief Minister had failed to take action.

“Tamil Nadu CM Stalin showed us that if you are a man, then you will oppose it. A strong woman like you in West Bengal Mamata Banerjee said that this communal poison won’t be accepted in Bengal. Kerala’s Chief Minister doesn’t belong to the category of either a man or woman and that’s why he decided to sign the scheme,” Salam stated, including that the state’s “biggest insult” was to have such a pacesetter.

The remark drew widespread condemnation, particularly from the ruling CPI(M). Training Minister V. Sivankutty known as the comment “extremely despicable and insulting to cultural Kerala.” He wrote on social media that such statements had been “inhuman and anti-democratic” and may by no means come from a pacesetter of a significant political organisation.

IUML nationwide basic secretary PK Kunhalikutty additionally stated that the get together all the time speaks respectfully of its political opponents.
