Anybody who purchased a Samsung or Apple cellphone between 2015 and 2024 could possibly be due compensation if a category motion go well with in opposition to expertise big Qualcomm is profitable.

Shopper group Which? has introduced the declare on behalf of round 29 million cellphone customers.

Which? alleges Qualcomm breached UK competitors regulation by profiting from its dominance within the patent-licensing and chipset markets.

It claims this resulted in Qualcomm having the ability to cost producers equivalent to Apple and Samsung inflated charges for expertise licences, which have then been handed on to customers within the type of increased costs or lower-quality smartphones.

The trial will run for 5 weeks from at the moment on the Competitors Enchantment Tribunal in London.

If Which?’s first trial is profitable, there will probably be a second trial specializing in Qualcomm’s conduct and the injury suffered by the category, that Which? has calculated at round £480m.

Which? is in search of damages for all affected Apple and Samsung smartphones bought between 1 October 2015 and 9 January 2024.
