American citizen launched by Taliban after 9-month detention in Afghanistan

Amir Amiri, an American citizen detained 9 months in the past in Afghanistan, was launched Sunday and is on his means again to america, Secretary of State Marco Rubio introduced.

“Today we welcome home Amir Amiry, an American who was wrongfully detained in Afghanistan,” wrote Rubio in a social media put up. “I want to thank Qatar for helping secure his freedom.”

Negotiations persevered for a number of months till Qatar reached a breakthrough this weekend, which resulted in Amiri’s launch, the supply mentioned.

Two Americans have been freed in a prisoner swap between the U.S. and the Taliban in January, one among whom, Ryan Corbett, had been kidnapped in 2022 whereas on a piece journey. The Taliban agreed to launch them from Afghanistan in change for Khan Mohammed, a Taliban determine who had been imprisoned for all times in California on drug trafficking and terrorism costs, officers instructed the Related Press on the time.
