Subrahmanya Highway passenger practice to run with electrical loco from September 15

The Mangaluru Central-Subrahmanya Highway-Mangaluru Central Passenger that now runs with diesel locomotive will run with electrical loco from September 15 consequent to electrification of Mangaluru Junction-Subrahmanya Highway, Southern Railway headquarters stated in a notification on Wednesday, September 10, in Mangaluru.| Photograph Credit score: ANIL KUMAR SASTRY

The Mangaluru Central-Subrahmanya Highway-Mangaluru Central Passenger that now runs with diesel locomotive will run with electrical loco consequent to electrification of Mangaluru Junction-Subrahmanya Highway from September 15, Southern Railway headquarters stated in a notification on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) right here.

Three spherical journeys are made every single day by the passenger practice with Prepare Nos. 56625/26, 56627/28 and 56629/30 between Mangaluru Central and Subrahmanya Highway (SBHR). The practice earlier used to make just one journey to SBHR within the afternoon whereas the morning and night journeys have been executed until Kabaka Puttur. With the Railway Ministry extending the morning and night companies until SBHR on February 25, Minister of state for Railways V. Somanna had on April 12 flagged off the prolonged companies.

Prepare 56625 leaves Mangaluru Central at 4 a.m. to succeed in SBHR at 6.30 a.m. whereas Prepare 56626 leaves SBHR at 7 a.m. to succeed in Central at 9.30 a.m. This return journey has turn out to be extremely patronised by office-going passengers and college students after the extension. Prepare No. 56629 leaves Central at 10 a.m. to succeed in SBHR at 1.30 p.m. whereas Prepare No. 56630 leaves SBHR at 1.45 p.m. to succeed in Central at 4.25 pm. Prepare No. 56627 leaves Central at 5.45 p.m to succeed in SBHR at 8.10 p.m. Prepare No. 56628 leaves SBHR at 8.40 p.m to succeed in Central at 11.10 p.m.

Southern Railway Locos

Although SBHR comes below Mysuru Division of South Western Railway, Southern Railway’s Palakkad Division has been offering the locos and rakes for the service due to operational comfort. Accordingly, the electrical loco could be supplied by SR, the notification stated.

Confirming the change in traction, a senior official with Palakkad Division stated there could be no change within the current timetable of the companies. Nonetheless, each the zones, SR and SWR, have been exploring the potential of deploying a mainline electrical a number of unit (MEMU) rake for the comfort of passengers and likewise reducng the journey time, he stated. Even Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has demanded substitute of the standard rake with a MEMU.
